The Limpopo province is among several in the Republic of South Africa. Northernmost of South Africa's provinces, Limpopo was previously known as the Northern Transvaal. In 2003 the name was officially changed to Limpopo, the name of the river running through the province. Limpopo borders the nations of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. The capital of Limpopo is Polokwane, and the province is divided into 5 districts: Capricorn, Vhembe, Waterberg, Mopani, and Sekhukhune.

The district of Capricorn, named after the Tropic of Capricorn running across the north side of Limpopo, is an ideal tourist stopover. Capricorn runs from the provincial capital of Polokwane, across grassy plains and the foothills of the Wolkberg Mountains to the national parks. Capricorn offers a variety of African cultural identities among mines, farms, forests, and monuments. The town of Zebediela has one of the largest citrus farms in the world.

Close to the Capricorn district are Mapungubwe National Park World Heritage Site on the north side of Limpopo bordering Zimbabwe. The Kruger National Park and Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park are on the Northwest side of Limpopo, bordering Mozambique.

Tourism, mining, and agribusiness are the three venues to economic growth in Limpopo province, an area covering 48,554 square miles. Tourism investment is growing in Limpopo, an area rich with wildlife. The Polokwane airport is served by South African Airways from Johannesburg. Economic trade between South Africa and surrounding countries runs across Limpopo, including the Capricorn district, on the N1 route from Johannesburg, the busiest highway in the country.
